Multi-platform

So I’ve been using my new iMac for a few days now. The first thing I spend an hour or two doing: fixing the mouse. I just can’t stand the mouse acceleration built in the to the OS. Maybe I could get used to it, but I don’t wanna.

Other than that, and quite a few other small annoyances (home and end keys?!), I’m really loving it. I’ve already moved the Mac over to my main workspace area; my Windows machine is on the side now. It kinda makes me sad. I’m already getting “habits” that I have to change again when I switch back to my Windows computer for a bit. (Cmd + C vs Ctrl + C for example). I’m really digging the universal spell checker. No matter what program you’re using or what you’re doing, it’s checking your spelling and can offer corrections.

I also got a 1TB network hard drive for backup and file sharing. I can not for the life of me figure out how to view files between and Mac and Windows PC. The farthest I got was being able to see the Mac from my Windows machine, but I can’t connect to it or anything. The Mac just doesn’t see anything on the network. I even have to manually connect the network drive (it just shows up in Windows). But I will give it props for finding the network printer.

I plan to write all kinds of stuff about it on my new developer blog, just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Still need to get pictures up too. I’m kinda in limbo right now. I’m using the Mac a lot, but I still need my Windows PC for a lot too. I don’t feel like I have a “home” anymore. =(

We went and bought gas logs last night for our fireplace. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll buckle down and install it all myself or just pay the $60 for them to come do it. The grate thing in our fireplace it latched down somehow; and I couldn’t figure it out in the 30 seconds I tried. I’ll make a hearty attempt tomorrow and then decide.

I think we’ll go buy a Christmas tree today (do they make any that are NOT pre-lit anymore??). It’s getting to be the most wonderful time of the year!
