I like watching the news… I like any news anywhere. I keep constant tabs on digg and reddit. I can read a lot of things that I don’t agree with and make it water on my back.

But this news report from our local Fox26 News got my blood a bit hot.

It hasn’t even been 3 weeks since Hurricane Ike. If you count from AFTER the hurricane passed, it’s only been a day or two over two weeks. Power all over Houston was down, and people from all over the U.S. and even Canada have been pulled down here to help restore everything. People are getting power back at record breaking speeds, and today only 0.5% of ALL of CenterPoints customers are still without power. People were told prior the the storm to be prepared to be without power for 2 - 3 weeks.

However, Congresswoman Jackson Lee thinks this is ridiculous. She thinks we need to make laws to FORCE power companies to be even MORE prepared for such an event. Her along with another male representative (I can’t remember who it was from the TV broadcast of this story) are going to “fight” for this outrage. The congresswoman and the other guy as well as all the people interviewed that are still without power are black and were hinting at the race card.

What really irks me is to see the amount of charity by all of Houston and the huge (remember, record breaking) resources used to restore everything to normalcy, especially by CenterPoint… and it STILL just isn’t good enough for someone. I can understand that it’s frustrating being without power for so long; but is no one understanding that they are working around the clock to get things working again… is there no sympathy and understanding on their part?

This is a growing and prevailing attitude in America… the “me, me, me… it’s all about me”… and “if it’s not about me I’ll sue you and somehow MAKE you make it about me”. Grr…

Macs crash too

So I’m loving my iMac, but it sure irks me when I hear things like: “you never need to restart your Mac” or “your Mac won’t crash” or “Macs are lots more stable than PCs”. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to reboot Leopard now to fix weird things that started happening. Just little things, like the dock’s background disappearing, and the text over icons no longer showing. Or the DoubleCommand app no longer working for some unexplained reason; just to name a few.

And the number of program crashes I’ve had, almost makes me feel like Vista was more stable. And it’s not just 3rd party programs like CyberDuck FTP (crashes ALL the time), but even Mail.app and Safari crash often enough to be annoying. The “rock solid” image that all the Mac fan boys keep screaming about just isn’t there in the long haul.

Don’t get me wrong… I love OS X. Having recently moved all my domains to use Google Apps for e-mail (etc), I not longer need my PC for day to day use (although Picasa is better than iPhoto, and Sony Vegas can do AVCHD natively; iMovie can’t). I use MailPlane to have almost instant access to my e-mail accounts, which nothing is stored locally. I’ve fully switched (for the most part), and I use Coda for all my PHP development.

So… that’s my rant. Mail.app just crashed on me again so I thought I’d write about it.

Hmm again

My brother has started a blog… and is showing some true colors.
Edit: “True colors” is the wrong description. Not true colors, just a side of him I have never seen and didn’t think was there. I don’t believe those are his “true” colors, I know my brother is a good kid.
Seems to be forgetting that dad is Dad… and is doing what fathers do… and are SUPPOSED to do. Seems to be forgetting he’s only in high school… and doesn’t know “life”… I remember being his age and thinking I knew it… but I didn’t… I still don’t…

Even his friend who commented to his post realizes that sure, parents get annoying… but they’re your PARENTS… and they DO know better.

The Hummingbird

Hummingbird Metabolism - Amazing Design

I also found this article, Ten Commandments - NO, Gay Monument - YES. In the article they say “The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission says it approves new markers every year — and most of them involve public dedications where elected officials, historians and citizens come together to “celebrate and understand their heritage.” — Understand all but the religious part of our heritage… which starts from the beginning. The “Gay Movement” didn’t start until 1965 at best, according to the article. The last paragraph disgusts me, “a SundayOUT street festival and parties”. I go to church on Sunday… while they roll in their immorality.

I also found this article… interesting… and weird… and a bit troubling. Yes; all at the same time.
