We’re on Google Maps!

Woohoo! You can find us by typing in our address in Google Maps now. For the longest time we just didn’t exist on maps!

I like watching the news… I like any news anywhere. I keep constant tabs on digg and reddit. I can read a lot of things that I don’t agree with and make it water on my back.

But this news report from our local Fox26 News got my blood a bit hot.

It hasn’t even been 3 weeks since Hurricane Ike. If you count from AFTER the hurricane passed, it’s only been a day or two over two weeks. Power all over Houston was down, and people from all over the U.S. and even Canada have been pulled down here to help restore everything. People are getting power back at record breaking speeds, and today only 0.5% of ALL of CenterPoints customers are still without power. People were told prior the the storm to be prepared to be without power for 2 - 3 weeks.

However, Congresswoman Jackson Lee thinks this is ridiculous. She thinks we need to make laws to FORCE power companies to be even MORE prepared for such an event. Her along with another male representative (I can’t remember who it was from the TV broadcast of this story) are going to “fight” for this outrage. The congresswoman and the other guy as well as all the people interviewed that are still without power are black and were hinting at the race card.

What really irks me is to see the amount of charity by all of Houston and the huge (remember, record breaking) resources used to restore everything to normalcy, especially by CenterPoint… and it STILL just isn’t good enough for someone. I can understand that it’s frustrating being without power for so long; but is no one understanding that they are working around the clock to get things working again… is there no sympathy and understanding on their part?

This is a growing and prevailing attitude in America… the “me, me, me… it’s all about me”… and “if it’s not about me I’ll sue you and somehow MAKE you make it about me”. Grr…

Frustration! (oh, and trees)

So I’ve been working all last weekend on a little iPhone web app that connects up with FreshBooks; and I tweaked a lot of things on Monday; and today I was doing some more tweaking.

Well, Coda decided to stall in the middle of saving my work via FTP and just timed-out; and then wouldn’t close. So I force quit the application and re-loaded it, only to find that two of the primary pages I had been working on are now blank, and I have no backups. (Can we say it’s time to use SubVersion for EVERYTHING?)

I’ve contacted my host (PowerVPS), and they’re looking into pulling the files from backups. This will be the second time they’ve saved me in this type of situation. I love them.

Pretty frustrating all the same.

Anyway, I bought two more Crape Merdles and a Pin Oak tree that’s about 8 feet tall. All of them were half off (only $8.50 for the oak!). I’ve started digging a hole in the front flower bed for one of the Crapes. It’s hard when I’m using a wheelbarrow with a flat tire (it’s been flat for so long I can air it up).

There’s a lot of other work related stuff going on; things are crazy busy. I’m thinking about moving back home with my office for now. I’m driving around and moving so much that I hardly have time to go to the office. And then I’m home in the evenings and up late working anyway; so I might as well have everything I need here. (That goodness I got a MacBook Pro)

UPDATE: PowerVPS (quickly) restored a really recent copy. Whew!

Nice Weekend!

We swam at my dad’s house every day this weekend. I had forgotten how fun it can be. I think more than anything it’s because it was SO HOT outside!

We took Jasmine with us all three times. She swam and loves to be on anything that floats. She would never jump in; but she didn’t mind us pulling her in and holding her. She’s not an incredible swimmer, so I wouldn’t just let her swim on her own or anything.
