The Holidays Are Here!

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted! So much is happening… we’re so busy we haven’t even continued watching the third season of LOST that we bought not too long ago!

I’m excited about the holidays and it’s finally chilly outside! Woohoo!

I’ve recently rediscovered coffee and the positive affects on my programming! I’m able to focus for longer periods of time and get more done. Now to find the perfect blend, right?

So much more, I’ll put blogging on my to-do list; cause that will help, right?

Jury Duty and now Election Night

So I had jury duty yesterday and was one of 6 selected to be on the jury out of 25 people. I’ve always generally believed that, yes, I know there are innocent people in jail and that bad things happen to good people. I understand that… but I also understand that the other 98-99% of people who are in court are there for a good reason. And that people are good at lying and story telling, etc, etc.

So the case we heard was a solicitation of prostitution case. It basically came down to the undercover cop’s word against this Chinese lady’s word. Long story short, we found her not guilty in like 20 seconds after we all sat down in the deliberation room. I could go into details about it… but don’t feel like typing 20 pages! It was definitely a good experience and gave me some insight on the world in general.

In other news, is it crazy or what how the number of people who say, “if so-and-so wins, I’m moving to such-and-such”, just grows exponentially as the election comes to a close and how it’s largely the democrats who make such “threats” or “incredible” statements. I’d like them to lose just to prove what a drama-queen they’re being; cause you know they’re not going to pack up and move like they say they would. Weren’t there some celebrities who made those kinds of statements but never made good on them when they lost?

Anyway, that’s all I’ll say about the election, because for anyone who cares… who couldn’t talk for pages about it?

We got a Wii!

So we were out at Best Buy today; I needed a new thumb drive and razor (Best Buy has a great selection of Panasonic electric razors, Panasonics rock).

We also decided to pick up the third season of LOST and the Matrix Trilogy (only $14 on DVD for all 3 — $100 if you want all 3 on Blu-Ray).

We of course saw the Wii there and played it a bit, and the TONS of Rock Band sets. (Like 3 rows at Best Buy).

We asked if they had anymore in stock and they said no. Pam really thought one would be great… and if Pam actually wants a video game system then we’re going to get that video game system! So on our way home, we thought we’d stop by Circuit City at the mall just to see… and they happened to have ONE LEFT! I told them we’ll take it.

We went to Wal-Mart and got Mario Galaxy, which is ok (Pam is actually playing it!), but I’m gonna go see what else is out there. Pam’s really interested in the Wii Fitness.

Cool cool!

Whew!

So I had created an algorithm to generate “codes” to be used on our digital download site (yipeyetunes.com). This was special because the codes are predictable and verifiable without having to keep a record of them. So I can generate 10,000 codes and not have to keep 10,000 download codes in the database, waiting to be used. I wait for someone to enter a code, validate it, and then record it as used.

So I did this and had these download codes (which are then encoded) printed on the back of 5,000 - “4 Free Downloads” plastic cards. Good cards (just like a credit card), to be passed out on tours and put inside orders when they’re mailed out.

This evening before church, a customer e-mailed me saying he received one of these cards with his order, but it was telling him his code was invalid. So I look around a little bit trying to figure out why that’s happening (because his code is valid, I checked it with a spreadsheet of all the codes we had printed), it’s now time for church.

Just before this, it dawns on me: I may have just printed 5,000 download cards with codes that are all invalid.

::blank stare::

So I woke up this morning at like 4am, because this is just on my mind, and get to work on it. Turns out it was a small programming error on the front end, not in generating the codes.

WHEW!

The tech industry moves fast.

So I ordered a new gaming system last Friday from newegg.com. I’m pretty excited about it! For those interested, here’s the specs

The computer isn’t even here yet (should be here tomorrow), and I just received an e-mailed “deals” ad from newegg, where the video card is already $10 cheaper, and a RAM option that’s $20 less (though may not be the better type of RAM).

Crazy though, how fast things move. Wouldn’t be too surprised if my computer is already out-dated by the time I start playing games on it.

Intel is set to announce their new iCore7 processor next month, with shipping starting early next year. It’s supposed to be the “next generation” in processors… making my “almost top of the line” processor I ordered Friday outdated in only a few months.

Definitely check out the case though, I like it a lot! I think I’ll only be buying Lian-Li cases from here on out. Their quality, elegant and clean design is great. You look on newegg for computer cases and wonder “what are they thinking?!”. Becoming a Mac user makes it really hard to go back to those computer cases. Dark, cheap, plastic and ugly machines.
