It Gets Easier, Right?

Well, last week I finished development on a “application” that will take my database schema and automatically create the code for classes, admin displaying, adding, editing and deleting in one click. In other, less tricky words… what could take a week or so to do before, I can now do in about 5 minutes. The Backend/Admin interface creates itself (for the most part), and all that’s left to do is create the actual site itself (logic, data manipulation, etc) and functions specific to different classes. In other words… making a web site is MUCH faster, easier, better; and I can spend more time on design, user interface and feature sets. This means spending less time reproducing (or copying and pasting) repeated code.

So to answer my own question: Yes, it does get easier.

In other business news, we launched www.aggielandcertified.com a while ago, only to discover that a couple of months ago, Texas A&M trademarked “Aggieland”, and only businesses currently using that in their name were grandfathered in to use it. But since we weren’t “up and running” before that time (we had just registered the domain name), they told us “no”. So we had to change it over to www.bcscertified.com for the moment (Bryan, College Station Certified). What was fun, was all this time I was writing/coding the site, so that it can be easily moved to new domains with a few settings in the future… and that was the first time it was put to the test. Took about 5 minutes. Awesome! It was fun to get an e-mail from the site owner worried that it would take days; asking how soon can we get it up, and I was able to say “it’s there already”. :)

In even MORE business news… I’m writing a new PayPal class to handle credit card processing, refunds, transaction look ups and subscriptions… and I’m finding their documentation has errors; and not just a few.

In OTHER news… We decorated for Halloween last week. I got a fog machine! Cool! Still looking for a good costume to hand out candy with. Jasmine and Kitty are doing good. Pam has started working morning shifts at the day care, from 6am – 12pm. They’ve been asking her to come back in the evenings a lot lately because they’re a little under staffed. That should end soon though, it’ll be nice to have dinner together again every night.

6 Months!

Time really does fly when you’re having fun!

It’s hard to believe we’re six months into our marriage. Our puppy and kitten are growing up. Our backyard is starting to look like it’s full of grass. Our garage is full of stuff. And my office looks like I’ve been using it for years!

God is good and wonderful, that’s the best I can think of to describe everything!

Apple Keyboard and Weddings

One of my good friends Jared Kemp is getting married tomorrow! Awesome! Everyone is growing up and we’re all getting old… blah. But it’s all wonderful. We have a dinner tonight with everyone, and then I have breakfast tomorrow with Jared and then the wedding.

I bought the new Apple Keyboard yesterday at Fry’s. It’s pretty awesome.  I had to remap the Alt and Windows keys on it, but now it’s all good. It’s so thin, quiet, smooth, small; and did I mention thin? I was on a keyboard hunt about a month ago and settled on a cheaper (but good) Microsoft and Logitech keyboards. (Yes, two… because I couldn’t make up my mind). So far I’m happy with the Apple keyboard. I’m still getting used to the slight difference in the Home, End and Delete keys.

Both Jasmine and Tiger (now Kitty) are now spayed. More on that soon! Gotta go get ready.

Isn’t spaying fun?

So now both Jasmine and Kitty (formerly Tiger, and unless we think of a better name) have been spayed.  The vet called today asking if they could sedate Kitty because she was struggling so much when trying to get blood work done.

Jasmine bounced right back the day of the surgery, like it didn’t even phase her. And now Kitten also just came home and wanted to play with Jasmine.  She is a bit loopy, but that’s ok.

I broke our $50 bathroom scale for the second time now.  The LCD on the thing is just a thin plastic and apparently when I go in the bathroom to talk to Pam or something, I like to get on the scale for some reason.  We got our first one as a wedding gift, and our second one using gift cards from our wedding… so I’m thinking I’ll get something a bit cheaper, and perhaps more durable.  It’s a really nice tile scale.  The display just isn’t kid (or Drew) proof.

I turn 25 tomorrow. It’s exciting and troubles me at the same time. I finally get a discount on my insurance, but life just gets faster and faster.

It’s A Girl!

We went to the vet today and took Jasmine and Tiger for a “check-up” and to buy a kind of “pet insurance” for them. The whole trip took about 3 hours! probably half of that was waiting. Anyway, come to find out, Tiger’s a girl. We were thinking this whole time he was a boy, cause that’s what the guy we got her from told us; and we never really checked or thought too much of it. It took me forever to call her “him” too, because I was so used to Peaches and calling a cat “her”. Now I have to switch back!

They both got three shots. Jasmine was really sore today, to where we couldn’t even pick her up. She’s better now. Tiger just slept it off. We’re probably going to think of a different name for her now. We’re not sure yet.

I took a plunge and bought an R/C Airplane today. It should get here in about a week. More on that once I get it.

The new “certified site” I’m working on is coming together. A working version will be up within a week or so. I’m also working on a redesign (or re-do even) of the web site for the church here in Katy. That needs to be done by Friday from what I understand.

Pam’s much, much better now. She’s enjoying working at Childtime.

My cousin’s cat passed away today and this in my mind kind of closes an era. I remember that cat and their other one as kittens when we were little kids, and we’d be over there for Christmas just having all kinds of fun. But we’re all grown up now and the kittens have grown old and passed away and life moves on. We really are here for such a short time.
