My Grass Is Green!

So after (possibly) shocking the lawn right after we first moved in, our entire front yard is a nice dark green!  I’m very happy.  We’ve also planted a crape myrtle in the backyard and it’s doing well.  We still can’t get an oak tree started; they just keep dying on us.  The front one is doing good though.  And the grass patches in our backyard are starting to spread.  Very cool!

Pam started working part-time at a Childtime daycare this last Monday.  She’s been sick for the last week and a half with a sinus infection.  We finally went to the doctor on Wednesday (Dr. Bing) who gave us anti-biotic samples, and some prescription cough stuff (and only charged us $30 for the visit).  He’s an awesome doctor.  So Pam missed work Wednesday and Thursday (she’s doing great now), and yesterday was her first day to work with the kids the whole time (lots of paperwork the first few days).  It’s great so far and a lady from church is the one who own’s it, and there’s another lady from church also working there.

I’ve just about finished the main site for a chain of sites I’m working on.  It’s up and running, there’s just no “about” section yet (the most important part).  One of the chain sites is mostly done also.

That’s about it for now.

The Future Is Now?

Pam’s birthday was today! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Her “big gift” was a new cell phone, the little Pantech C3. It’s so tiny! Hopefully this will solve the problem with battery life we had with other (2) cell phones (they were old).

So about the future… while browsing www.digg.com, I came across something, and for some reason did a speed test of my Internet connection. I’ve always gone to www.speakeasy.com/speedtest to do my testing, but this particular link led me to www.speedtest.net.

For some reason, it showed me as getting over 15000kbps (15Mbps) (almost 2MB/s) downstream. I thought this must be an error, cause my connection should be about 5000Kbps (5Mbps) (about 600KB/s). So I went over to speakeasy where I normally do testing, and sure enough… I’m getting almost 2MB/s download speeds!

It must be a glitch (I’ll say a prayer tonight that it’s not), and it sometimes goes down to about 8000Kbps (8Mbps). But… it’s really nice; and my upload speed hasn’t changed any.

But, shouldn’t we have this kind of speed already? I mean, obviously they can do it. VerizonFIOS is dishing out 30Mbps already. You can get a 15Mbps download and 2Mbps upload for $50/month. But that’s still not great. Japan is dishing out 100Mbps connections for $36/month (and a free phone line if you want it!). Or double the speed to 200Mbps for about $40/month.  Shoot, you can get a 1Gbps line in some parts of Japan for about $160/month. Makes the “standard” 3Mbps or 5Mbps offered by Comcast and Time Warner look puny; and for MORE money than other faster options?! I haven’t even mentioned the 1.5Mbps offered by our local phone company for DSL… for similar prices as the VerizonFIOS… can we say “blah“?

And don’t get me started about where Net Neutrality is headed…

Update!

I continue to find myself stuck. I have many ideas, and lots of plans; and I sit at the computer and can’t imagine where to start. Work is getting done, but not nearly at the rate I imagine in my head. I almost think I’d do better as a project manager, paying people to do exactly what I think of… but that of course costs money. I think the whiteboard is about to become my friend.

Jasmine is all better now. Our cat still farts despite multiple diet/food changes. Philip recently bought the Dead Rising game for Xbox360, and it’s pretty awesome. Looks like it will take quite a while to get all the way through it.

The house next door is starting to go up. They’ve been putting the frame up for that last two days. We though it was going to be a two story, but it’s looking to be just a big one story. They’re going to have a tiny backyard.

That’s about it for right now.

We got an Xbox360

So I realized when I posted yesterday, that it had been one month since my last one. So I thought I’d start trying (again) to post more.

When we went up to Dallas to see the John Mayer concert with Jeremy and Josie, I got to play some Xbox360 with Jeremy, and he encouraged me to get one so we could play online.

So I went ahead and took the plunge, and got one. Along with the games Crackdown and Rainbow Six: Vegas. It’s really awesome to play with Jeremy online, with the headset and co-op things. Philip wants to get one now too (wait, what about his PS3?), lol.

On day one however, the cat chewed through the headset cable (really tiny). So had to drop another $20 for a new one of those. And then Philip just yesterday decided to pick up/move the Xbox while the DVD was spinning up… Crackdown doesn’t appear to work anymore. I’ve read about a replacement program from Microsoft for that problem though, and a way to fix it.

It’s awesome though, and they have some great games about to come out this fall too. Never pictured myself a console person… but here I am.

Jasmine Was Sick :(

So Jasmine wasn’t feeling so hot two days ago. I had brought her in from playing outside in the front yard, and she came in for a drink, but spit it all out about 20 seconds later. So we took her outside and she immediately started eating grass like crazy!

She threw up about 6 times in 30 minutes, and kept eating grass, and she couldn’t even hold down water. Her little tummy was so small without anything in it. All the rest of that day she would throw up (water) every hour or so. She was so miserable, it was no fun.

So a night in her kennel (and a few throw ups more) and we gave her a little bit of dog food the next morning. She drank quite a bit, and could hold it down. She wasn’t too interested in the dog food, but she did finally eat some… and promptly gave it back about 10 minutes later. But at least she could drink water.

She slept a lot, and we took her over to my dad’s house where she found some energy and was happy (and thin). I started eating some Hawaiian bread and she really wanted that, so we gave her a bit and she kept it down. So when we got back home, we gave her some chicken noodle soup, and she ate it so fast the cat couldn’t even get at it.

So, this morning, she had more chicken soup and was full of energy. Until we went outside… where she decided to eat more grass… and throw it up again. Poor puppy! She’s getting better though.

The only thing I can think of what it could be is that I sprayed the yard for insects, and she licked it all up. I waited the said amount of time for it to dry, but obviously she can still lick it up. I’ve since watered the yard to get the stuff down into the dirt.
