Blogo Makes Me Happy

So Blogo 1.1 was recently released; and it’s great! Immensely better than the previous software I had used (or tried to, it never caught on).

There are a few things I can see need to be worked out, but overall it makes writing a blog post easier and more pleasent. So we’ll see how it rolls over the next couple of weeks. Maybe it’ll even keep me posting more!

Tough Dirt

100_3182So I finally planted the second tree in our backyard. (They’re more like 15′ tall) I’m pretty sure our ground is 1/2″ top soil, 4″ of clay, 12″ of rock hard clay and then some form of regular dirt. The second hole I dug, I soaked 3 times over the last 2 days; and it was still almost impossible to dig out.

But I did it, here they are as you can see. You can view the full sizes if you add me as a friend or family on Flickr. It really makes things feel a little more cozy and personal.

It is HOT outside. The kind of hot where it’s miserable to go anywhere except right below your A/C vents. I dread having to run errands if my car has been in the sun for any amount of time.

Other things are just moving along very quickly. Business is growing faster than I can keep up with; but that’s a good problem to have. I hired out for a redesign of hihowareyou.com which is finished now; I just have to put it to HTML and then get it up and running. So keep an eye out for that. I also bought www.drewforhire.com with plans to use it; though I’m not sure exactly how.

Pam got a raise today at work. Not as much as were were expecting (or hoping); but is it ever I guess? We went ahead and bought the 3 Indiana Jones movies and are going to watch them before we go see the new one in theaters. It’s gonna be good!

Trees

So we went to buy an Ash tree to put in our backyard. Turns out; they’re on sale ($35; regular $69), so we bought two. They’re each almost 20 feet tall already; it really changes the look of the yard. I’ve planted one so far; it’s not easy. Maybe I’ll have some pictures eventually.

Misc Updates

So I’ve been really busy the last two days (and particularly this morning) with getting the last (and biggest) web sites moved over to our newer, faster and better server.

So in the process, I’ve changed the http://store.hihowareyou.com/ site to www.hihowareyou.com/store.

Probably no difference to anyone out there; but it changes things like the SSL certificate and users logging in, etc. It might hurt our Google Rank for a little bit too; but it’s part of a bigger project in the future that we’re planning for the site. So now everything is on the new server and that (possible) nightmare is over.

I also changed the YipMedia logo a bit. Something a bit more simple and clean. Not to mention it looks great when a customer has to login to FreshBooks. Which leads me to…

I’ve also started using FreshBooks for my invoicing needs (which are growing!). I was debating between FreshBooks, Cashboard and BlinkSale for almost 3 weeks; and it was really starting to bug me. But Freshbooks won out in the end for their included Mac widget to track my time, their PayPal integration (with Website Payments Pro) and their nice, documented API so I can interact with them myself using my own app.

Did Comcast Upgrade?

picture-6.pngSo, I just happened to have to upload some large files in a server migration today, and noticed that a 7MB file uploaded a lot sooner than it should have. So I went to speedtest.net and found my download speed is almost 16Mbps (2MB/s) down and 2.6Mbps (325Kbps) up. Crazy! Cool! I’m not sure about how long the top speeds will sustain (for example, when they upgraded to 8Mbps, only the first 4 or 5 seconds was 8Mbps; then it would drop back to 5Mbps) or if this is just a fluke; but I’m liking it!
